mediARC Modules

mediARC Module Product Description

mediARC  GUI

Designed with the skilled archivist and archive management tasks in mind, themediARC GUI is a Windows ® applicationthat you use to access most of the mediARCfunctions. It’s the starting point for creatingand describing an archive object, modelingor managing a workflow, and researchingassets within the mediARC database.

mediARC WEB is a limited intranet Web version of the mediARC client. Any authorized user can log on to this online catalog to search metadata, prelisten/preview media assets, and order items in the archive.
The archive manager can restrict access to specific metadata categories for different groups of users.

DB Distributor

DBDistributor is the database proxy themediARC GUI uses to communicate withthe database. With it you can configuremultiple database connections, each withan optional fail-over connection.

The ProcessorHost is the database proxy forprocessors, the software modules that handlespecific tasks within a workflow, suchas the actLINE and ingestLINE processors. It is also responsible for rights managementfor different processes, and Garbage Collection(GC) of temporary workflow files withinthe General Public Path (GPP).

The FileManager is the link between theuser domain, the system domain, and thearchive domain. FileManager moves filesamong the different domains using dedicatedpolicies such as file-system-basedcopies, RemoteFileAgent, and StorageConnector.FileManager selects the appropriateaccess method depending on the request itreceives (fulfilling typical OAIS needs).

StorageConnector acts as scalable conduitbetween the system domain and thearchive. It works with the FileManager toshuttle files between the two domains. Itcan run its own transactions on asynchronousprotocols, which makes it perfectlysuited to talk to HSM or Storage ContentManagement Systems (SCMS).

RemoteFileAgent works with the File-Manager to transfer encrypted files to theuser’s domain. Each user access domaingets its own RemoteFileAgent. A useraccess domain can be a local network onthe premises where the mediARC systemoperates, or a distant network, such as aregional station.

WebPreviewServer acts as a streaming serverfor preview requests from mediARC Web.WebPreviewServer uses the preview cacheof the mediARC system for reading in mediafiles, and it restricts access to media databy limiting the playable file range and thetime the file URL is available.

The NOA Emailer is a processor applicationbuilt into a workflow that notifies youof specific workflow conditions. When thecondition arises, it triggers an email. Forexample, you would receive an email whena certain workflow completes or fails.
mediARC API The mediARCAPI is a PL/SQL packagethat gives an API access to the mediARCsystem. The mediARCAPI is designed foraccess via Oracle database connections,or by HTTP via an Apache Web server overa PHP-based API wrapper (restapi.php).Typically you would use the API to accesslow-level, detailed information about itemswithin mediARC, or to trigger a workflow.
